Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation to begin Cancer Rehabilitation Program

Dr. Michael Stubblefield to Lead Program

Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation has announced that renowned cancer rehabilitation specialist Michael Stubblefield, M.D., joined the hospital on March 1, 2015. Dr. Stubblefield is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Internal Medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

"Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation has been a pioneer in medical rehabilitation for nearly seven decades, and the addition of Dr. Stubblefield to our team opens new avenues of care excellence for individuals with cancer," said Bruce M. Gans, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. "His knowledge, experience and leadership will help to redefine cancer rehabilitation and improve the outcomes and quality of life for these patients."

Dr. Stubblefield, a graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, was affiliated with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for the past 13 years and with New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center.

"Our goal is to address some of the many physical rehabilitation challenges faced by cancer patients and survivors as a result of their disease and its treatment, and to restore their function and quality of life through individualized treatment."

Dr. Stubblefield is the co-author of Cancer Rehabilitation: Principles and Practice (New York, NY: Demos Medical Publishing, 2009), the only comprehensive textbook on the subject, and he is widely regarded as one of the innovative leaders of this rapidly growing field. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and a member of the Association of Academic Physiatrists, among other organizations. Castle Connolly has named him one of America's Top Doctors each year since 2007.
